BIM and coordination

Clashes are solved on screen, not on site.

DDES models structures in Revit and coordinates them with architecture and MEP systems to resolve clashes before construction, with quantities taken from the model. It works from Barranquilla on projects across Colombia.

What is structural BIM coordination?

It means bringing the structure, the architecture and the building systems together in digital models to find where they clash before construction. The same structural model is used to produce the drawings and the quantities.

We model the structure in Revit and coordinate it with the architecture and the plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems. Clashes between disciplines show up in the model months before they would reach the site.

Clash detection

We overlay the models of all disciplines and deliver clash reports with an owner and a resolution date for each item.

Quantities from the model

Concrete, steel and formwork quantified directly from the model, ready for budgeting and purchasing.

What is the process?

  1. Standards

    BIM execution plan.

  2. Modeling

    The structure, from the design.

  3. Coordination

    Weekly sessions between disciplines.

  4. Delivery

    Model, drawings and quantities.

What do we deliver?

  • Structural model in Revit
  • Clash reports
  • Quantities
  • Drawings generated from the model

Frequently asked questions

What software do you use?

Revit for modeling, Navisworks for coordination, and ETABS, SAP2000 and SAFE for analysis.

Can you model a design you did not do?

Yes. We model from existing drawings and flag any inconsistencies that come up.

What level of detail do I need?

For a permit, LOD 300 is usually enough. To fabricate and quantify precisely, LOD 350 to 400.
